Student ID Cards

Your Student ID card is your passport to our Libraries, computer access, discounts at the Student Union shops and transport concessions.

Your card remains current for the duration of your enrolment at the University of Newcastle.

New or replacement cards

To obtain your card, you will need to attend a Student Hub at either the Callaghan campus, University House or the Ourimbah Campus, provide the required ID and have a photograph taken.

If you are a Distance Learning student please complete a Student ID Card Mail Request form  (Distance Students Only)

Please note - Head coverings are not permitted to be worn, except for religious reasons, in which case, facial features from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of your face, must be clearly shown.

The University will take every measure possible to ensure privacy for students wearing head coverings for religious reasons.

100 points of identification

To obtain a student ID card you need to provide 100 points of identification to verify your identity using one or more of the following types of documentation:

70 points Passport
  Birth certificate (not extract)
  Citizenship certificate
   
40 points Current Australian Driver’s Licence
  Student identification card issued by an educational institution
  Pension or Government Health Care Card
Public Service ID card
  Government issued licence (eg boat, pilot)
  University staff photo identification card
   
35 points Letter from a current employer. Must be on official company letterhead and contain both the employer and employee’s signatures and the name and address of the employee.
   
25 points Medicare card
  Credit card
  Financial institution cash card or passbook
  Council rates notice
  Electricity, gas or telephone bill
  Tax assessment notice
  Foreign Driver’s Licence
  Membership card (eg club, union, trade/professional body, library, video library)
  Rental receipt or statement from landlord or real estate agent
  Marriage certificate
  Divorce decree
  Name and address verified from electoral role
  Deed Poll registered with the relevant authority
