Criminal Records Check

If you are considering a program which prepares you for a profession involving the teaching or care of children, the ill or other people in a vulnerable position, you should be aware that agencies providing clinical placements, internships or fieldwork during the program may exercise their right to require you to undergo a criminal records check before agreeing to host a placement for you.

Employers and agencies which already require such criminal records checks include the New South Wales Department of School Education and the New South Wales Department of Health.

If the program you wish to select has a fieldwork, practicum or internship component, and the relevant agency declines to permit you to undertake this aspect of your studies, then you may not be able to complete the requirements of the program. You should therefore note that in such circumstances, you may not be able to graduate with the award which you entered the University to undertake.  In such circumstances, the University will do what it can to assist you to transfer to another program, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Processing Fee

From 1 January 2009 the CrimTrac Agency is charging a $30.00 fee for processing the national criminal record check.  The University will collect the fee on behalf of NSW Health and the CrimTrac Agency.

Students are required to make the payment at the Cashiers' Office or at their Hub prior to submitting the form. Your request will not be sent to NSW Health for processing before proof of payment is received.

National Criminal Record Check Consent Form

If you are enrolling in a program which includes a clinical placement with NSW Health, you will need to complete the National Criminal Record Check Consent Form - NSW Health and submit it to one of the Student Hubs.  The CRC consent form must be submitted with the Prohibited Employment Declaration (page 3 of CRC form) and proof of identity (i.e. University student card).

Enquiries should be directed to the Admissions and Enrolments unit on telephone (02) 4921 5000.

Vaccination Against Infectious Diseases

Students who are going on a placement may require vaccinations and must read the NSW Health 'Important Requirements for Students Undertaking Clinical Placement Within NSW Health Facilities' document here.

International Students

If you are an International Student and being placed in a NSW Health facility you must provide evidence from your country of origin that a criminal record check has been conducted. If you are unable to provide a copy of your criminal record check, you must complete a statutory declaration indicating if you have/do not have any criminal charges/convictions recorded against your name.

Enquiries should be directed to the Admissions and Enrolments unit on telephone (02) 4921 5000.
