Transferable skills are those attributes that ALL graduates from the University of Newcastle possess
You probably don't even realise all the brilliant skills you've developed in your time at the University! Skills that ALL employers are looking for. You have become adept at:
- teamwork - whether it be from group work tasks in your course, from events or sports you've enjoyed, or just from attending tutorials and speaking up, you've discovered ways to work well in a team situation
- assessing the scope of a project - even through interpreting the (somewhat sketchy) parameters of an assessment task you've had assigned, and then nailing it
- problem-solving - either in the problem-based work you have done, or even in finding ways to establish what's expected of you when it's not been immediately clear
- writing - that essay, report, email or application for an extension have all provided practice in areas of writing you may not have otherwise encountered
- feeling confident about tackling unfamiliar problems - well, remember back to your first undergraduate year? Did you know what was what, or where it was? Of course not, and you'd never been in a university before. But, look at you now - easy-peasy
- planning - of your own work, your schedule, how to get your assignments/study/research done and still schedule some fun with your friends/kids/dog/ partner in your few hours 'off' each week. It's a skill, and you've got it!
- receiving feedback - it's not always fun to get 'feedback' but constructive criticism is useful to your development, and learning to take it on the chin and learn from it is a skill that you will have practised in your time at UoN
- valuing perspectives other than my own - this is a generic skill in life, and one that the University is proud to be able to aid in conferring on you; it comprises tolerance, understanding, discernment and respect
