Empowering, supporting and preparing
Stepping Out is a student-centred web-based portal that collates various services and aspects of the University for individuals who are in their final year of study, or are nearing completion, have recently completed, or who are thinking of stepping into further study.
Stepping Out is the result of a widespread consultation and feedback process across the University of Newcastle, including with our students. We would like to thank all contributors, in particular those students who gave their time to help this site deliver its integral student-centred approach.
The site is designed to facilitate empowerment by providing highly visible and easily accessible knowledge and support before, during and after students' transition, so they can be better prepared for their new life phase, while also maintaining a feeling of connectedness with the University.
It also:
- facilitates a broad understanding of the array of transferable and program specific skills gained from undergraduate study;
- fosters connections between the graduate, university, professional groups and community; and
- encourages life-long learning.
Our aim is to help our students 'step out' of university with a self-knowledge that better prepares them for the experiences and challenges that lie ahead.
