The University of Newcastle Three minute thesis final was held on 10 August with 17 competitors across all faculties taking part. The judging panel consisted of Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Mr Roger Brock (Editor, The Newcastle Herald), Gabrielle Briggs (2010 UoN Winner) and Professor Scott Holmes.

The winners of the University of Newcastle final were:

1st place – Jamie Flynn -  PhD (Anatomy)

2nd place – Katherine Bolton - PhD (Medical Genetics)

3rd place – Bernadette Drabsch - PhD (Design)

Jamie Flynn, first year PhD (Anatomy) candidate, took out the University of Newcastle title from an impressive field, with his presentation “Propriospinal Neurons and Their Role in Recovery from Spinal Cord Injury”. Jamie competed in the Australia and New Zealand Competition on 29 September 2011.  He made it through to the top 10. Well done and congratulations!
