Supervision
This website provides information on the University of Newcastle Supervisor Workshop Series and links to internal and external resources to assist supervisors to develop an understanding of student needs and supervisory expectations and responsibilities.
One of the University of Newcastle's strategic goals is to enhance research training. To meet such a goal requires an active and flexible program of supervisor development that accommodates new supervisors and experienced ones, and which draws on local as well as external expertise.
Workshop Series
The Supervisor Workshops Series draws on visitors and local expertise to provide support for supervisors, delivering up-to-date, empirically grounded, information and providing access to best practice.

Support Materials
There is now a significant international literature on Research Training and Supervision, and national and international networks of researchers in the field. The national body, the Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies produce policy and position papers that also can be used to guide supervision practice. The University also subscribes to the fIRST website that provides resources for both supervisors and research students.

Register of Supervisors
The Register of Supervisors allows students to search for a potential supervisor. Prospective Research Higher Degree applicants are encouraged to consult with academics in their chosen field prior to submitting an application for admission. The register draws information from Research Portfolio Manager (RPM). Supervisors can nominate projects as 'Available for RHD Students' via the RPM system.
Enquiries regarding the Register of Supervisors should be directed to research@newcastle.edu.au or phone the Office of Graduate Studies on 49 21 6537.
