Research Training Scheme for Domestic Students
Under the Research Training Scheme (RTS) the University receives funding from the Australian Government to meet its operational costs for the candidature of domestic students. This support is in the form of an exemption from the contributions normally payable by Australian students under the Higher Education Loan Program. RTS funding is limited to:
- Four years full time (or part time equivalent) if a PhD candidate, or
- Two years full time (or part time equivalent) if a research masters candidate.
All students are required to submit their thesis within the RTS entitlement period.
Beyond these periods, the University will receive no funding to meet the costs of research infrastructure or the salary costs for, for example, your supervisor, technical staff, librarians or other staff who may be called upon to assist in your candidature.
The University expects that all research higher degree candidates will complete their degrees in four years for PhD or two years for research masters degrees (or part time equivalent). (Your completion date is noted for your information on the cover sheet of your Annual Progress Report).
Fees may become applicable once this entitlement expires.
For further information on current fees please contact the Office of Graduate Studies.
Information on FEE-HELP (deferred payment through the Higher Education Loan Program) is available at the Study Assist website.
The full Research Training Scheme Guidelines are available from the Department of Education Science and Training. Test.
Tuition Fees for International Students
International candidates will be sent an invoice for tuition fees each semester. Please refer to the Fees and Charges website for current fees.
Student Services and Amenities Fee
From semester 2, 2012 a Student Services and Amenities fee is applicable to all students. This money is used to improve student services offered by the University.
Please note that this fee is not covered by any research degree scholarship. Off-campus, online and distance students are also required to pay a service and amenities fee. Find out more about SSAF.
