International Welcome Lounge (Monday 18th February – Friday 1st March 2013)
Open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday located in the International Office.
International students are advised to visit the Welcome Lounge upon arrival to Callaghan campus. Here you can meet with Staff from the International Office, get help finding permanent accommodation, assistance with online University services, find out what’s happening during Oweek, and register for excursions and activities.

Evening – Free Shopping Centre Tour
Time: 4.30 pm – 9.00 pm
Where: Departing Design Bus Stop (Map Ref B – D-8)
Jump aboard for some retail therapy!
The International Office is hosting a free shopping centre tour departing Callaghan campus by coach and travelling to one of Newcastles major shopping malls. Fashion, jewellery, electronics, whitegoods, bed linen, and food items are just some of the items on offer. Coaches will return to Callaghan Campus by 9pm.

Nelson Bay Dolphin Cruise
Time: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm
Where: Departing Math Bus Stop (Map Ref B – C5) by 10.00am sharp.
Cost: $25.00
Join us for a spectacular day out at picturesque Nelson Bay aboard Moonshadow Cruises. Sail the protected Nelson Bay waters for Dolphin spotting and bring your camera and cossies (bathing suit) to try out the boat’s splash net.
You will have a chance to explore the marina and shopping centre of Nelson Bay prior to boarding your coach to return to Callaghan campus by 4.30pm.
The cost for this adventure is only $25 per person, billed to your student account. Seats are limited for this event so registration is required.

Glenrock Bushwalking Experience
Time: 10.00 am to 2.30 pm
Where: Departing from Hunter Coach Bay (Map Ref IP – H-13) at 10.00 am.
Cost: $10.00
Did you know there are hidden pockets of rainforest right in the middle of Newcastle?
Come on a unique bush walking experience and discover the Glenrock Reserve National Park area. Conserving over 500 hectares of natural coastline near the heart of Newcastle, Glenrock has striking headlands, attractive beaches and pockets of rainforest. Its rocky creeks flow over waterfalls, past enclosing cliffs into water-worn rock pools before entering picturesque Glenrock lagoon.
On this guided tour, you will trek along the Yuelarbah Track which winds through a bushland boardwalk and then down onto the forest floor where you will follow alongside a rocky creek, past two waterfalls and on to Glenrock Lagoon and the beautiful beach front. Your guide will inform you about the natural fauna and flora along the way as well as point out ancient Aboriginal heritage sites.
The trek departs from Callaghan campus at 10 am by coach, arriving at Glenrock Reserve for a 4 hour walking tour and departing at 2.30 pm to return to campus. The trek is graded as beginner / medium fitness level for walkers of all ages.
The cost for this event is $10.00 which will be billed directly to your student myHub account. Registrations are open to the first 100 international students only, so get in quickly to secure your spot on this iconic Australian bushwalking experience.

Blackbutt Animal Reserve
Time: 11.00 noon to 3.30 pm
Where: Departing from Hunter Coach Bay (Map Ref IP – H-13) at 11:00 noon.
Join us for a social day out at beautiful Blackbutt Animal Reserve and a chance to experience a close encounter with Australia’s most renowned animal, the Koala.
Coaches will depart Callaghan Campus and travel to Kotara where you will have the opportunity to visit the many animal exhibits including Kangaroos, Emus, Wombats, Possums, and Rainbow Lorikeets to name just a few. The free Koala Encounter show offers you the chance to pat and photograph the adorable Koala and learn some interesting facts about this amazing creature.
A free BBQ lunch will be provided in the parklands surrounding Blackbutt Reserve, with the chance to play a friendly game of soccer, chat with other students, or simply kick back and relax. Coaches will return to campus by 3.30pm
