Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF):
The Australian Parliament recently passed legislation allowing universities and other higher education providers to charge a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). During 2012, Australian Universities, including the University of Newcastle, introduced a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) to improve the services offered to all students.
The introduction of this fee is an opportunity to expand a range of services and amenities for you. In 2012 the SSAF funded a number of improvements to services for all students and continue to support student associations and campus service providers that represent you. You can 'like' or make comments about each of these improvements at http://www.newcastle.edu.au/experience
This fee is being phased in for all students.

Can I defer my fee?
Australian citizens or holders of an Australian humanitarian visa will have the option of taking out an SA-HELP loan to cover the cost of the fee (similar to HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP for tuition fees). Find out more about SA-HELP. Students who don't complete an SA-HELP eCAF by census date will be required to pay the fee up front.
To take advantage of this option for study in 2013:
- Log in to MyHub during the re-enrolment period (http://myhub.newcastle.edu.au/)
- Click on "View My SA-HELP Ecaf" on the left hand side of MyHub under the "my Finances" tab.
- Complete the "Request for Commonwealth Assistance - SA-HELP" form (you will need to enter your Tax File Number if you have not previously supplied this to the University)
