Early Offers in 2013

Why did I get an offer in the December or Early January Round?

The University has decided to make offers in early rounds to applicants in specific situations for a selection of programs. These offers are based on a range of admission considerations other than the ATAR:

  • B Engineering – completed HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and/or 2
  • B Science – completed HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and/or 2
  • B Mathematics – completed HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and/or 2
  • B Arts – completed HSC English Extension 1 and/or 2
  • B Social Science – completed HSC English Extension 1 and/or 2
  • Non-current school leavers with some completed qualifications for programs
    • such as B Business, B Commerce, B Laws (Graduate Entry) and B Nursing
  • Students who have completed Newstep, Open Foundation or Yapug in 2012 to B Arts, B Social Science, B Business, B Commerce

What are the advantages of receiving an early offer?

The biggest advantage to receiving an early offer is peace of mind. You’ll have the comfort of knowing we’re holding a place for you in the course of your choice. You won’t have to wait until the main round UAC offer to start planning your first year at University. You will receive information from the University shortly after the offer is made.

How do I accept my early offer?

You should follow the instructions on the UAC website or in the offer brochure.

What happens after I accept my offer?

You will receive a communication from your Faculty.

Some Faculties are holding information sessions:

  • Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment – Friday 14 December
  • Faculty of Science & IT – Friday 14 December
  • Faculty of Health – Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 December

The Faculty of Education & Arts and the Faculty of Business & Law will send a number of important communications to new students in their programs throughout December and January.

Everyone will also receive information detailing enrolment and orientation activities that are held in January and February.

What if I change my preferences?

Regardless as to whether you’ve received an early offer or not, you can always change your UAC preferences.

If you receive an early offer and then choose a different degree as your first preference, you should accept your Newcastle offer to ensure it is held for you.

If you change your preferences, you will be considered for the Main Round and must meet the cut off requirements.

What if I’m not eligible for an early offer?

The University of Newcastle will make the majority of offers in the Main Round on 16 January. If you do not receive an early offer, you may still receive an offer in the Main Round.

Applying for Credit

If you have previously studied at a tertiary level (e.g. university, TAFE) you may be eligible for credit towards your new degree program. As credit may have implications for your enrolment, please complete the online Credit Application form as soon as possible. This can be found at: How to Apply for a Credit Transfer.
