"My favorite aspect of studying abroad in Newcastle was living in International House and meeting people from all over the world. Not only did I make friends from Australia, but I made friends from countries like New Zealand, Norway, the UK, Canada, and even the United States, my home country. I also really enjoyed traveling all over New Zealand and Australia. I hope to come back some day and see even more. My advice for students thinking about attending the University of Newcastle would be to live in International House. It's a really great community, and you get to meet people from all over the country and the world"
Renae Keeley, Clemson University
"What I liked most about my overseas experience was meeting so many people from all over the world. I met a ton of Australians as well as other international students. Learning about other cultures and different perspectives about life was so interesting. The best advice I would give to someone thinking about coming to Newcastle would to be open-minded. Try to step out of your comfort zone and meet people you normally wouldn't at home. You'll find by just striking up a friendly conversation, you could make life long friends."
Sherri Wielgos, San Diego State University
"Newcastle has given me the chance to learn more about myself and introduced me to a whole new world of people and experiences. Anyone looking to study abroad should go for it, it honestly will change your life and you will not want to leave. The University of Newcastle has a great campus, the city is huge and has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. It is close enough to travel to Sydney on weekends but has more of a suburb feel and is more laid back than the busy city. Without a doubt I have made so many memories here, especially living on campus and I know that most of the people I met will be life long friends."
Hayley Drumm, Miami University
"What I loved most about my overseas experience was the friendships that I have made here and that will continue even when I return home."
Lauren Arnett, Miami University
"During my study abroad experience at the University of Newcastle, Australia I was able to make lifelong friends while going outside of my comfort zone. I would strongly recommend all students take advantage of this type of opportunity and experience as much as possible in a new culture."
Shay Dinwiddie, Chapman University
"I love the adventures that I took part in, I was able to see so many things here that I can't see at home. My advice to other students is take part in everything you can and be open to new experiences."
Anamarija Starcevic, HDU University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf
"What I liked most about Australia next to the amazing landscapes and wide variety of animals is the warmth of the Australian people, which I found are very friendly and whose willingness to help others is enormous. Whether it was a taxi driver who stopped when he saw me walking in the rain, whether it was a student at the uni walking with me for 15 minutes to show me the way to a building I could not find on the beautiful and enormous campus, whether it was one of my Australian roommates who gave me a lift, whether it was a random man who cheered me on when I stopped jogging - I felt very welcome and I will return to visit the friends I have made in Newcastle and I am excited about them visiting me in Europe and about making their stay their as enjoyable as mine was in Australia."
