Libraries
We have five libraries based at four locations: Auchmuty and Huxley libraries at the main Callaghan campus in Newcastle, City campus Library in Newcastle City, Central Coast campus library at Ourimbah and Port Macquarie campus Library. Four of our libraries are open seven days.
Student Hubs
Visit our Student Hubs to find all the help you need with admissions, enrolments, exams, assignments and program related matters. There are student Hubs at Newcastle, Callaghan campus, Central Coast campus and University House in the Newcastle CBD.

We provide every student with an email account and access to Internet services through our libraries as well as at home, through our dial-up network. Sections of Callaghan campus are wireless zones. This means you can bring a laptop and sit outside and work on your assignments, surf the web, or check your emails.
Outstanding sporting facilities
Newcastle University Sport (NUsport) is the organisation which manages all sport and recreation at our Newcastle campus. NUsport facilities are widely recognised as among the best of any Australian university.
Elite athletes
Surpassing our sporting facilities is the performance of our students. Our university is home to many successful athletes who compete on a local national and international scale. The Elite Athlete Friendly Scheme is a great example of how elite athletes can balance studies with their sporting dreams and prepare themselves for a career when they retire from their sport. The scheme supports elite athletes by providing assistance with assessments, timetables, attendance and alternative exam arrangements.

At the University of Newcastle, we can help you explore the world while continuing your studies. Our successful student exchange program aims to give students an opportunity to study overseas and have that period of study credited to a degree program at the University of Newcastle.

Career assistance and guidance
We provide an excellent career advisory service for students at all stages of study. You can access this service at our Newcastle and Central Coast campuses, as well as through TAFE counsellors at Port Macquarie. Our trained counsellors provide career guidance and assistance, resumé and job application advice, job interview information and practice, self help services, and career planning.

Wollotuka
The University's Wollotuka Indigenous Support Unit offers a range of services to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Wollotuka provides the most comprehensive range of Indigenous studies programs in Australia. The Gibalee Aboriginal Studies Centre is part of Wollotuka and supports Indigenous programs at our Central Coast campus.
Bridging courses
Studies indicate that the first year of university is the most critical period in determining the success of your career as a student. To help you prepare, we offer a range of bridging courses to help boost your knowledge and skills for entry to various degree programs. Classes are held in January and February before the start of each academic year.
Centre for Teaching and Learning
If you experience difficulties with English, or with other areas of academic study including how to better manage time, handle the required reading, or improve an essay, the University offers a free learning support program. This service is available at both our Newcastle and Central Coast campuses.
Blackboard
Blackboard is an online student support system that enables you to submit assignments and view your progress and final marks. You can receive assignment tips, discuss assignments on the discussion board with fellow students, view lecture and tutorial notes and gain answers to tutorial questions.
Need a student mentor?
Your first year at university can be daunting. For this reason, we offer our first year students access to a mentoring program. You will be assigned a current university student, who can provide support and advice and answer any questions you might have. This mentoring program operates at both the Newcastle and Central Coast campuses.
