General Instructions for Applying
  • You must complete your online application using upper and lower case letters for your name and address details, e.g. Jane Anne Smith, 34 Brown Street, Wallsend.
  • A visual guide to the Online Application process is available here.
  • The Terms and Conditions of enrolment with Foundation Studies can be found here.
  • When you are entering your name you must enter your full name as it appears on formal documentation (eg. Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate or Passport).
  • The first page is to set you up as a user of this online system. After you have registered your email and password you will be redirected to a Login screen. Login here to apply for Open Foundation.
  • On the Type of Study page it asks for your study level. Open Foundation is an Enabling Program.
  • There is a section for you to enter if you already have a University of Newcastle student number. If you have applied to or studied at the University of Newcastle before please answer yes to this question. You are able to leave the student number field blank if you are unable to remember your student number. Your student number does not have a ‘c’ in front of it. This is something that you have to add when using the computers on campus. Please do not put the ‘c’ in your online application as the field only allows you to enter 7 characters.
  • Before you submit your application please check the Summary Page to ensure that you have correctly entered all of your details. Once you click the submit button you are unable to change any of the details of your application through this system. Please contact the Foundation Studies Office if you have any problems after this time.
  • If you are required to send in documentation (see below) please print out a copy of the Summary of your application and attach it. This ensures that we match up the documentation with the correct application.
Documentation
  • All documentation must be verified either by a Justice of the Peace or at the University campus.
  • If you have previously applied to study or undertaken study at the University of Newcastle and have since changed your name you must send in a University of Newcastle Name Change Advice Form and appropriate documentation.
  • If you were not born in Australia (or New Zealand if you are applying as a New Zealand Citizen) you must provide proof of your citizenship/residency status. If your Citizenship/Residency documentation is in a previous name you must also provide proof of your name change (eg Marriage Certificate).
  • Don’t forget to attach a Summary of your application if you are required to send in documentation.
