About Newstep

What is Newstep?

Newstep is a tertiary preparation program offered by the University of Newcastle. It is a one-year program which has been designed for 18-20 year olds who didn't complete the Higher School Certificate or who didn’t gain sufficient marks for entry into university.

Newstep is offered at both the Callaghan campus in Newcastle and the Ourimbah campus on the Central Coast. It is accepted as an entry qualification by many universities in Australia.

Why Newstep?

Newstep is a proven pathway to university studies. The program has been helping many young people to access tertiary studies since 1990. The program has been designed as a pathway between school and University by giving students the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge necessary for success in a University study environment.
