Writing Academic Essays
Callaghan, Ourimbah and Port Macquarie Campuses
This course is designed for students who are about to commence studies at a tertiary level and who want to be sure they are starting with the written communication skills required for successful course work.
The course demonstrates essential steps in the essay-writing process, including:
- interpreting the question
- devising a reading plan
- taking notes
- organising your ideas
- structuring an argument
- the writing process (e.g. sentence construction, vocabulary selection, etc.)
- using evidence and referencing sources
- editing and polishing your work.
Whatever your study program, the ability to plan a well-organised piece of work and to present it in a coherent and informative way will help you succeed.
Students do not need to write and submit an academic essay during the course. Rather the course aims to provide the fundamental skills, knowledge and approaches that will give you a headstart in developing your essay writing abilities during your undergraduate studies.
