Trainee managers undertake training specific to their employer (usually on the job) in order to progress to a management role. While this may involve learning about specialist operating methods, staff management and financial issues it is difficult to generalise the tasks of a trainee manager as each organisation places emphasis on different aspects of managerial responsibilities. Trainee management positions often involve structured time frames for promotion and may require the completion of formal qualifications in addition to practical tasks. For those with managerial aspirations but little experience, this type of role is well-suited as it provides training and the opportunity to gain experience combined with paid employment. Structured trainee management programs are available in a variety of industries including banking, retail and hospitality. Many of these require potential applicants to have attained tertiary qualifications in a discipline like business,management or human resources.
