Portfolio analysts monitor financial portfolios by examining growth, making predictive risk assessments and generating reports. They may create comparative investigations and advise on costs and benefits of investments and identify trends and patterns in financial data.
Portfolio analysts come from variety of backgrounds including mathematics, statistics, finance, IT and accounting. The specific tasks involved in this line of work vary between employers and career progression is often dependent on extensive industry experience (in addition to formal qualifications). Banks, investment companies and insurance agents are major employers of portfolio analysts.
