A development manager is involved in leading the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects undertaken by aid organisations. Activities may include:


  • Developing proposals for aid program delivery, including budget and resource mobilisation
  • Leading a team in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a project program
  • Identify and work collaboratively with other groups that are working on the focus area of a project
  • Provide research and development advice to organisations including government departments and private sector organisations


A degree or post graduate qualifications in law, social sciences, development or related disciplines is usual for this role. Previous program management experience would be expected at this level. Depending upon the nature of the project, some roles require specific local knowledge, experience or citizenship. International travel experience, language skills, project management and research skills would be required.
