Biography

Wyn is a lecturer at The University of Newcastle, Australia, with a strong interest in design practice, management and education. He is an Industrial Designer from Wales, UK, and has gained considerable experience working on the design and manufacture of products in the consumer, medical, packaging and military industries. Since commencing his academic career in 2008, Wyn has taught into 11 different courses in the Industrial Design, Architecture, Construction Management, Visual Communications and Design & Technology (Education) degree programs. He currently coordinates two final year Industrial Design courses and a first year Architectural Communcations course. His research interests are in the education and practice of early phase of the design process.

Wyn teaches one of the largest cohorts in the School in his first-year Architectural Communications course (ARBE1100). In 2012, 363 students were enrolled in a course that is delivered on campus and via distance learning.

Wyn was as a part of a small team developed an Online Orientation Module in Blackboard for Construction Management distance learners to manage their expectations and to brief them about university services and policies.

Teaching expertise

Wyn has taught into 11 different courses since becoming an academic in 2008. In the last two years, he has consistently scored excellent SFT (student feedback on teaching) results, and is has been recognised by as one of the top teachers in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.

In March 2012, Wyn was invited to become a Faculty Teaching and Learning Mentor for his continuously excellent SFC (student feedback on courses) results.
