Biography

Pam Sinnott is an artist and educator. She has exhibited in national and international curated exhibitions. Since 1991, Sinnott has had ten publications in the three leading Australian journals for Ceramics. There have been eleven major and minor reviews of Sinnott’s work in international journals and in a book. In producing artworks she has worked mainly in 3D Art especially Ceramics. For her PhD she devised a method of large-scale ceramic mural production using digital imaging techniques. Most recently her work has developed in relation to thematic exhibitions. For the New Adventures of Mark Twain: Coalopolis to Metropolis exhibition In New York (2007) the work responded to Mark Twain’s visit to Newcastle in 1895. More recently the Hunter Coal region has been highlighted with work for the Down- Under-Ground exhibition at the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland (2008).

Research expertise

My research achievements have been high by exhibiting regularly in both solo and group exhibitions and in competitive exhibitions. I have also had several journal articles published in high quality ceramics journals about my work. I have written several journal articles which have been published in high quality journals on the work of others in the field.

There is a difficulty with exhibiting internationally in ceramics as it is a fragile medium to transport. Because of this I have focussed on local prestigious exhibitions and published articles about the work with images in international journals. In that way the work is seen by many more people than if it had been in a gallery in any part of the world.

In the March 2007 edition of Ceramics Monthly, the journal of the American Ceramic Society - "the world's oldest, most comprehensive and largest international ceramic art periodical" my work was featured both on the front cover and in an article with several images of the work.

Critical Review of Artworks

2007	Ceramics Monthly American Ceramics Society (United States) An exhibition in 2006 at John Miller Gallery titled Abode represented a substantial body of art work in a solo exhibition in a prestigious gallery. A subsequent review written by Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Ashburn (UNSW) was published in Ceramics Monthly - the journal of the American Ceramic Society in March 2007 pp 48-51 (ISSN 0009-0328). The journal is "the world's oldest, most comprehensive and largest international ceramic art periodical". It is the most prestigious ceramics journal in the international arena. The acceptance of the article/review for publication and the accompanying images reflects my standing in the international ceramics community as well as the quality of the work. Further acknowledgement was to have a full colour image of one of my sculptures on the cover of this issue. In total there were five large colour images of my work and a further image of myself.

2004	Acquisition Newcastle Region Art Gallery (Australia) Representation in national/international collection. "Friend of Dorothy" acquired by NRAG which is distinguished for its collection of the foremost Australian and Japanese ceramics.
