Biography

Kylie commenced employment at the University of Newcastle as a casual academic in 2004, and was permanently appointed in 2007. Her practice experience includes work with homeless and vulnerable young people and women experiencing domestic violence, in contact with the criminal justice system and working towards employment. Kylie has developed, taught and evaluated a variety of theory, practice and research courses, also researching and publishing in the area of undergraduate social work experience.

Research expertise

Kylie is particularly interested in qualitative research with vulnerable populations, and has conducted research with Indigenous communities, women from disadvantaged backgrounds, residents in aged care facilities and older people estranged from their adult children. She has also researched the undergraduate social work experience including the new graduate experience, teaching social work students about violence and trauma, teaching social work students about GLBTI issues and work integrated learning.
