Biography

I am currently an early-career researcher, having completed my Master of Fine Arts in mid 2007. I am however an accomplished Photomedia exhibiting artist (having exhibited since 1982), acknowledged for my expertise in digital media and multi-media practice. My commitment to this practice is exemplified by the public exhibitions my work has been shown in, the professional workshops and seminars I have contributed to and the number of highly successful students that I have mentored.

As the sole Digital media specialist in the discipline of Fine Art I have had the responsibility of mentoring colleagues and acting in a quality context to output all Fine Art production at the highest possible level. this position has therefore required me to develop my research outcomes to include all aspects of the ongoing upgrading and understanding of the technical requirements of digital imaging technologies. This includes camera design and function, computer software for imaging, animation and professional portfolio presentation and image outputting.

As an active researcher I have a commitment to attending conferences, symposiums, forums and workshops, and read extensively in my research area. Through my OSPRO I have developed important links with international institutions and artist/academics that will benefit both my own research, and that of the School of Creative Arts.

Research expertise

Concepts of time and properties of light are a primary focus of recent works.

Using time-lapse photography; the path of the sun and the consequent changing colour temperature of light throughout a day is documented in a range of environments. Photographs and digital animations are constructed that emphasize these qualities of light and the impact of apparently subtle changes that occur over time. The images are usually presented as a combination of large-scale digital prints and digital projections.

Underpinning the work are studies of pre-cinema time-lapse photography and modernist films of the 1920's investigating time as the fourth dimension in art.

Results of this current research have been presented at such venues as the Art Gallery of NSW, Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery, Gosford Regional Gallery and the University of North Carolina.
