Biography
Janet Wallace obtained her Dental Therapy Diploma from Westmead College of Dental Therapy, and later obtained her Bachelor of Oral Health from the University of Newcastle in 2007.
She has worked in private and public dental practice spending many years working for Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service in various roles including, Senior Dental Therapist, Community Dental Health Programs Office, Manager Child Dental Services, Acting Manager Community Dental Services and Health Promotion Co-ordinator.
In 2008, Janet joined the University of Newcastle as a Conjoint Lecturer to implement an aged care student placement program in residential aged care facilities on the NSW Central Coast, which is the focus for her PhD research.
In 2009 Janet Wallace joined A/Professor Fiona Blinkhorn in setting up a new program at the University of Newcastle, NSW, - the Graduate Diploma in Dental Therapy and was appointed to the position of Lecturer.
Janet Wallace has an interest in service-learning and is currently working on her PhD entitled, A Service-Learning model of health promotion in the residential aged care environment for dental hygiene students: A cluster randomised controlled trial, and has presented her research at a number of national and international conferences.
Janet Wallace is a life member of the NSW Dental and Oral Health Therapists Association, Chair of the Australian Dental and Oral Health Therapists Association Education Committee and has recently been appointed to the NSW Dental Council.

Research expertise
Janet Wallace has two publications in peer review journals and has recently given presentations at two International conferences.
Since joining the University Janet has developed an interest in oral health for residents in aged care facilities. She is currently completing her PhD entitled, A Service-Learning Model of Health Promotion in the Residential Aged Care Environment for Dental Hygiene Students: A Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial.
Janet Wallace has a particular interest in student experiential learning and has developed a teaching DVD to benefit oral health students attending community placements.
Having been involved in dental therapy education for many years Janet has a special interest in modivating students to learn and particularly experientail learning. Her research has shown that students benefit from community placements.
Collaboration
Janet Wallace is currently working with Centre for Oral Health Strategy, NSW Health looking at ways to improve oral hygiene for residents in Aged Care Facilities.

Janet Wallace is the Chair of the Education committee of the Australian Dental and Oral Health Therapist Association and a peer reviewer for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of dental and Oral Health Therapy.
Janet Wallace was appointed to the NSW Dental Council for a period of three years commencing July 2012.
