Localized corrosion can be detrimental for steel pipelines and other containment structures such as nuclear waste containers since single wall perforation may have catastrophic consequences. It follows that the quantification and development of such phenomena with time is of practical interest. However, such long term data is scarcely available and anecdotally reported in the literature, granting this publication special consideration amongst its field of research.
