Biography
Dr Giggins is currently working as Lecturer in the Discipline of Construction Management in the School of Architecture and Built Environment. Helen received her PhD from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Newcastle, Australia in 2009. Her thesis titled ‘Security of Genetic Databases’ was nominated for the Computing Research and Education Association of Australasia (CORE) Australasian Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation in 2009.
Her current research interests are diverse, ranging across disaster management and recovery, use of ITC in education and architectural history. Her previous research interests include privacy preserving data publishing, privacy preserving data mining, trust management and graph theory applications.

Helen has a diverse research expertise, having completed her PhD in the area of statistical database security, but now working in the field of construction management.
Collaboration
Helen is currently involved in several research collaborations, and grants. These include:
A $10,000 internal Teaching and Learning grant titled "Development of an integrated system to provide students with 'verbal' feedback". Helen is Team Leader on this grant.
A University of Newcastle Linkage Pilot Research Grant titled "Mapping research priorities for disaster preparedness and recovery: Improving built environment resilience through construction industry collaboration".
Helen is involved in the Timeline Newcastle project which seeks to recreate the architectural history of Newcastle using an iPad application.
