Biography
Dr. Hao Tan is a Senior Lecturer in International Business at the Newcastle Business School, University of Newcastle, Australia. He also serves as a Convenor for the Master of International Business Program. Prior to joining the UoN in 2012, Dr. Tan had worked with several universities in Australia, including Macquarie University, University of Technology Sydney and the University of Western Sydney, on such roles as Research Associate, Research Supervisor, and Research Lecturer.
From 2006 to 2009 he worked on an Australian Research Council Large Discovery Project ‘Cyclical Industrial Dynamics and Strategy’ as a key collaborator of the Chief Investigator, Prof. John Mathews. In 2009 and 2010 he was engaged into research funded by the DIISR of the Australian Federal Government as a Research Supervisor evaluating management practices of Australian manufacturers, which was part of a global project coordinated by London School of Economics and McKinsey & Company.
Dr. Hao Tan has published papers in leading academic journals such as 'Journal of World Business' (ERA Rank A), 'Industrial and Corporate Change' (ERA Rank A), 'Journal of Business Research' (ERA Rank A), 'Technological Forecasting and Social Change' (ERA Rank A), 'International Journal of Production Economics' (ERA Rank A), 'Journal of Industrial Ecology' (ERA Rank B) and 'Energy Policy' (ERA Rank B). He has also acted as a Reviewer for several leading international journals, including 'Technological Forecasting & Social Change', 'Economic Inquiry', 'Journal of Industrial Ecology', 'Asian-Pacific Economic Literature', 'Innovation: Management, Policy & Practice', and 'International Journal of Technology Management'.
Dr. Hao Tan has taught at the undergraduate, Master and Doctor levels on such subjects as Business Forecasting, Contemporary Engineering Organization and Management Practices, Cross-cultural Management, International Business Strategy and Research Methods. He currently serves as a course coordinator/lecturer for courses in the Master programs and the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program; and a Supervisor of PhD and DBA candidates.
Prior to coming to Australia, Dr. Tan had seven years of experiences working in industries in China. He had worked for a large high-tech firm as a project management officer and a corporate lecturer; and had later worked as a management consultant.
