Biography
With a predominantly photographic practice, artist David Wills works across photography, web, video and installation. His large-scale photo installations comprise thousands of images coupled with closing performances where the audience commences the de-installation process. In 2009, Wills completed his PhD at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra where he also completed his Honours (First Class) and taught in the Photomedia department from 2005. Wills has lectured in the photography department of the National Art School in Sydney (2007-2010) and in Photomedia at Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University (2007-2010), and contributes to This is Ikon's blog. David commences 2011 in a full-time lecturing position in the Photomedia department of the University of Newcastle.
Wills grew up under Sydney’s flight path in suburban Banksia, where his lifelong obsession with music, images, magazines and Lego paved the way for a career in media on magazines which include Cosmopolitan, SHE, New Weekly, Woman's Day, Muse and Time Out. He has lived in Sydney, London, Amsterdam and Antwerp, undertaken a residency in Paris, attended international conferences, and continues to develop new work. He is interested in the search for similarity/difference in a world of similarity/difference.

Research expertise
David's research interests include the notion of image saturation in relation to contemporary photographic practice and collecting. His work looks at the ephemeral and unnoticed.
