This is the first report on the use of ionic liquids as solvents in molecular imprinting which improved the overall performance of the molecular imprinted polymers. This research gained considerable attention in two international conferences - the 2nd Australasian Ionic Liquid Symposium, May 11-12,2006, Melbourne and MIP 2006, Cardiff, Wales, UK, Sept. 2006. This paper has been published in a high impact journal (IF = 5.14, 2007) and has been cited first by a paper that appeared in a very prominent journal, Advanced Materials (IF=9.107,2005).

The first paper published by our group applying molecular imprinting technology to illicit drugs and has resulted in an ARC Linkage grant (Development of In-field Detection Devices for Illicit Drugs) with the AFP Forensic services. This paper has been listed in June 2006 as #17 in the 'most read and downloaded papers list of Aus J Chem in 2006. I contributed about 90% to this output having done all the experimental work and written the manuscript.

This paper was the output from the first industry-funded (Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation) molecular imprinting project,subsequently,the group has received funding from 2 ARC-Linkage grants, with the Australian Federal Police Forensic Services (development of in-field detection kit for illicit drugs) and BSES Limited (formerly Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations). This is also the first molecular imprinting research output in Australia. I was a co-supervisor of the student who was responsible for the experimental work leading to its production.
