Biography

Christine Sanders is a senior lecturer in wildlife illustration. With a background in Fine Art painting and a research interest in aspects of the natural environment, she has taught widely in the areas of painting and wildlife illustration in the University.

She has and continues to exhibit her work widely in public and commercial galleries and was art critic for the Newcastle Herald and ABC Radio prior to commencing fulltime lecturing in 1975.

Her projects include The University of Newcastle book production "Bush Campus", the "Celebration Book" project for the Anglican sesquicentenary celebrations opened by the Archbishop of Canterbury and production of art works based on a Hunter theme for the Telstra building in Newcastle.

The creation of art works based on aspects of the natural environment. Particularly, Hidden Images (species survival through camouflage and fossil form), Watermarks (the exploration of tidal flow in combination with human intervention and its effect on marine activity) and Minescapes (the exploration of arid zones through the intervention of mining activity).
