Research expertise

Reading Visual the Visual Language in Graphic Design, specific research study Australian Wine Labels. This project will enable me to complete the full digital archiving, classification and conservation of the Wine Label collection established to facilitate my PhD in Design. This application is for the Phase One processing of this foundation [establishment] collection of Wine Labels, an estimated 7,000 units collected and sourced from 1998 -2002, that covers a period of Graphic Design and Visual Communication in the identification of Wines of the Hunter Region and Australia from the late 1950s to the end of 2002. The collection is a significant documentation for the Hunter Valley in both historical and contemporary terms; the valley is an important industry location for the Australian Wine Industry. The Wine Label, its changing shape and form visually describes the history and development of the Hunter and Australian wine. As primary source documents, they trace the establishment and passing of individual vineyards, winemakers, wine styles and the place that wine has held over the generations since wine grapes were first grown for commercial sale and export in Australia, here in the Hunter Valley.
