Research Interests

Dr Cantwell is an Educational Psychologist with a major interest in the development and application of learning theory. His particular interest lies in the area of metacognitive theory. He is currently working on the following funded projects:

  • Metacognitive attributes of doctoral students (funded through ARC-DP grant, with J. Scevak, S.Bourke and A Holbrook).
  • · Honours in the Australian Higher Education sector (funded through ALTC grant, with M. Kiley, D. Boud and C. Manathunga).
  • · Emotional adjustment of first-year students to university study (funded by University of Newcastle Equity grant, with J. Scevak, G. Preston, T. Dluzewska, D. Kirby and S. Cooper).
