OzBiogs features over 22,000 biographical and bibliographic entries for Australian artists, rolling together the best content from Discovery Media's online databases in one simple search interface. It enables an immediate search across all of the following databases:

  • NATSIVAD - is a biographical database of Australian indigenous visual artists, compiled by researcher Belinda Scott on behalf of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.  This database currently has biographical details on more than 5,800 indigenous artists.
  • ARTEX - is a listing of exhibition catalogues from public and commercial galleries in Australia, compiled by John Thomson, formerly of the National Gallery of Australia Research Library, Canberra. Information includes the exhibition title, dates, venue, text authors, publishing details and names of artists. Covers a wide variety of media.
    Note: This database is no longer being updated - instead exhibition listings are now being entered in the Ozbiogs database.
  • AustArt (Index to Australian Art Journals -IAAJ): over 39,000 entries on Australian art. Access to articles on Australian art and artists published in journals held by the College of Fine Arts Library at the University of New South Wales, with an emphasis on contemporary art. (Note: also available online at http://austart.library.unsw.edu.au/AustArt)
  • Additional biographies sourced and researched by Discovery Media.
  • A survey of auction results from 2004 and 2005.

Australian Art Prizes - a free addition to the AVAD5 databases comprises details about the major contemporary prizes for visual arts in Australia. Details include dates, prizes and contact information.
