How Do I….
Log on to the computers
Important! Computers are set to timeout after 30 minutes of inactivity.
- Press Control + Alt + Delete.
- You will see a logon window.
- To log on in you need to use your Internet password.
- Make sure UNCLE is selected from the drop down menu.
Change my Password
You can change your password at any of the Information Desks or at:
http://onlineservices.newcastle.edu.au/accounts
Save my work
Important! There is NO Temporary Drive. The computers in will not permit you to write to the C: drive except for the "My Documents" directory or if you have access to the student "U: drive"
Make sure to save all your work and take it with you before you log out. There are several devices you can save your files to.
Once you log out all work saved on the C: Drive will be DELETED!

How do I save to my zip disc or USB device? USB FAQs
- Click > File - On the top menu bar
- Click > Save As
- The Save as box opens
- Select Zip250 (E:) OR thumb drive (E:)
- Type in the file name
- Click > Save.

How do I burn my work onto a CD?
Firstly you need to copy the files you want to burn to the CD drive – Dvd/Cd-Rw DRIVE (D:)
How to Copy Your File

Click > start – bottom left hand side

Click > My Computer

Click > DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:)

Select your file from its saved position

Click and drag the file into the DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) window
How to Use XP Burning Software - After you have copied your file to the DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:)
- Go back into DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:)
- Your file is now displayed under 'Files ready to be written to the CD'
- Click > Write these files to CD - top left hand side
- Type in the cd name if wanted
- Click > Next
- The software will now copy your files
- Click > Finish

Attach files to email in Studentmail?
- In the compose box
- Click > Attach
- Attachment box opens
- Browse for your file
- Click > Add
- File is now displayed in the file attachment section
- Click > Attach
- File is now displayed in the compose box under attachments
Borrow a Laptop?
You can borrow an AIC laptop from the Information Desk staff.
- To borrow you will need your current student card AND a second identification card or document that includes your photo and name
- Borrowing hours are 9.00am - 10.00pm
- Laptops MUST NOT be removed from the Auchmuty library.
- Laptops are lent for 2 hours, with 1 renewal if not reserved
- You can pre-book a laptop in Newcat
- Laptops are lent as a package loan - the laptop, power unit and power cord
- Information Desk staff will give you a Laptop Borrowing Agreement Form to sign.
- Read the liability statement on the Laptop Borrowing Agreement Form. If you agree to abide by these conditions then sign the form in front of the Information Desk staff member
- A new Borrowing Agreement Form is signed for every laptop loan
- Laptops use wireless technology - cables are not lent with the laptops
- Return the laptop to a staff member at the Information Desk. Make sure that it is removed from your borrowing record before you leave
