How to Compile a Teaching Portfolio

A teaching portfolio is a summary or factual description of an academic staff member's major strengths and accomplishments in teaching (NTEU, 1996, Seldin, 1997*).

It includes documents and materials which collectively suggest the scope and quality of a lecturer's performance. It is to teaching what lists of publications, grants, and awards are to research and scholarship. (Seldin, 1997)

The teaching portfolio is your personal statement on

Your philosophy of teaching,
Your approach and style,
Your reflections on your growth and development,
Your innovations and achievements.

It is a tool which can be used to provide evidence of what you are trying to achieve in your teaching.
