Disclosure of health information
Professor Li was concerned about one of her students, William, who was not performing well in her course. She approached the student after class to discuss his request for an assignment extension. On the basis of their meeting Professor Li believed that William had medical problems which were impacting on his performance. She sought William’s permission to notify colleagues that could assist him with other course subjects being undertaken. Professor Li also suggested that the student make an appointment to visit the Counselling Service. The student did not consent to Professor Li’s requests. Should Professor Li disclose William’s situation to other Officers of the University in order that they may assist William?
