Collecting personal information
The X Faculty has the authority under the Y Act to compel all people receiving its services to provide details of their name, current address and income. The Faculty also collects information about age, marital status, ethnic origin and occupation as they believe this information may be beneficial and it will save time to collect as much information as possible from the outset. The form used to collect both categories of information states that the information must be provided under law and lists the penalties which may apply for providing false information. Is the Faculty in breach of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act?
