Policy approval bodies
Policy must be approved by the body or position with delegated authority to do so.
Rules and Schedules
The Council of the University is authorised under the University of Newcastle Act to make (approve) Rules and Schedules.
The Vice Chancellor has delegated authority under the Act to make (approve) rules - provided these are not inconsistent with the University of Newcastle Act and By-law.
Academic Senate has delegated authority from Council to make/approve amendments to Rules and Schedules relating to teaching or research; such approvals must then be notified to Council.
Policies
Academic Senate has delegated authority to approve new policies/procedures or revisions to policies/procedures relating to teaching & learning, or research.
The President of Academic Senate has delegated authority to approve changes to teaching & learning or research policy / procedure when the approval of the amendments cannot reasonably be deferred to the next meeting of Academic Senate.
The Vice-Chancellor has authority to approve new policies or amendments to policies and will normally do so following consideration of the proposed policy or amended policy, by Executive Committee.
Procedures and Guidelines
The Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors or Executive Directors may approve new or revised Procedure or Guideline documents (excluding teaching or research documents) relevant to their area.
