Toolkit for Students & People with a Disability
Moving Forward
The Hunter-Central Coast has a cohesive network of providers and support services to assist you in your move forward.
School Students with a Disability
There are lots of pathways that students with a disability can consider when planning life after school. A School Leavers Directory has been prepared for you, and the pathways diagram on page 9 will give you the bigger picture of what's available so you can start thinking about what you'd really like to do. The page numbers on the diagram refer to pages in the Directory.
Where do I Start?
What do I do after school? Would you believe that it's not too early to start thinking about this when you're in Year 9! The School Leavers Directory (linked below) is a great resource, but also come along to one of the many School Leavers Expos offered across the Region - more on those below - and have a look at the following resources...

Speak to People... go to a School Leavers Expo!
We're really lucky in our Region to have lots of activities and resources that we can link into when trying to make decisions about what to do after school. As well as speaking with teachers and family, every year in all parts of our Region we have School Leavers Expos for students with a disability or ongoing medical condition. You, your family, teachers, careers advisers and other staff can come along and meet up with providers who offer a whole range of pathway information and advice.

School Leavers Directory
Of course the Directory has all the information you need as well, but if you are unsure about which sections you should be checking out, you should talk to your teacher, Careers Adviser, discuss it at a Transition Planning meeting, or ring any of the staff listed throughout the Directory. (The 10 Ways to Get Your Career on Track on page 10 of the Directory also has lots of useful tips). Each section has a diagram on the steps you can take to follow a particular pathway - we hope this makes it a little easier to see the whole picture!

Email Lists
Our Region also has an email list for leaving students run by the National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) for students who are completing their school, TAFE, or University studies and "moving on" to the next stage of their lives, and who have a disability or ongoing medical condition. The great thing about signing up for MovingOn is that you're able to stay connected to a supportive network after you leave your studies, and link to reliable information when you need it! You can stay connected for as long as you like.
