Take Care of Yourself

It's easier to keep on top of your studies when you are healthy and happy. mySupport have put together a few tips aimed at helping you take care of yourself this semester.

Stay Positive

There are many times that University can feel overwhelming and you may feel anything but positive, so make sure you celebrate your successes and don’t linger on failure. Take constructive criticism on board and be enthusiastic about your time at University!

It's easy to feel intimidated by new classes, people and situations. Be confident and stay positive about these new challenges. Enrol for motivational emails that are aimed at empowering your approach to study. Think to the future!

Stay Healthy

It is so easy to lose the balance of healthy living at University, especially during the busier times. Make sure you set aside time for enough exercise and sleep to ensure that your body’s immune system is strong. Develop good habits such as carrying water with you and eating healthy snacks.  All of these things will increase your ability to think and decrease your stress.

Sometimes when you are in study mode, it is harder to eat healthy, especially if you have not planned snacks and meals. One way of not only ensuring a healthier intake of food, but of minimising your spending is to plan what you will eat. If you plan in advance and take healthy snacks that do not require refrigeration you will find yourself less likely to go for foods that do not aid your concentration. Consider eating some of the super foods for the brain!

The University has plenty of bicycle racks around campus, so think about cycling to Uni. For more information on cycling paths to the University of Newcastle click here.

You may also like to consider participating in a social sport team through Nusport - it's a great way to stay fit and make friends.

Reward yourself

Make a list of all the things that you would like to do that you don’t think you have time for in your schedule. Whether this be a night out with friends, a massage, some extra relaxation time or time for watching a new movie, write it down in your rewards. If you finish an assignment quicker than expected, get a good mark in a test, or finish your weekly revision ahead of time, look at your schedule and see where you can add in a reward. You may even wish to keep this list for mid semester/trimester breaks after successfully completing half a study period. Make sure you congratulate yourself on every success you achieve and take every opportunity to enjoy your time at University!

Take up support
