Searching for a journal by title
|
Law journals in the Auchmuty Library are arranged by a K1 call number e.g. Australian Bar Review = K1 AUST-B. To locate a journal on the shelf find out its call number by searching for the journal title, not the article title, in the catalogue NEWCAT
Choose JOURNAL TITLE and search for the first words of the title, the first 2 or 3 words is usually enough (Words in the title must be spelled out in full - no abbreviations).
Select the desired entry, multiple entries may represent printed, electronic or microfilm versions of the journal, and note the location, call number and library holdings.
NEWCAT provides information about the 'latest issue received' of a journal title, and the expected date of arrival for the next issue.
If a journal is not in the catalogue, you can contact Interlibrary Services about the cost of having an article delivered or, if you are a staff member or postgraduate student, you can register for Get It.

Expanding journal title abbreviations
|
Citations commonly abbreviate journal titles, you need to find out what that abbreviation means. In a large collection like ours a wrong guess may be the title of a journal, just not the one you want.
Check for an abbreviations list in the publication your reference comes from.
Locate a published list of legal abbreviations on the Law Reference shelves; around RK112
Check the law library's common legal abbreviations for journals and law reports, along with their call numbers.
Two more good sources of legal abbreviations are Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations , which has good international coverage, or Monash University Library Legal Abbreviations for a more comprehensive list of Australian abbreviations
