In the Short Loans area books are arranged on the shelves in call number order. There are also collections of videos, kits and lecture notes. Select the item from the shelf or from the pamphlet boxes. Items not on the shelf may be in the Short Loans Returns area awaiting reshelving.
Should you wish to borrow an item to read or photocopy elsewhere within the Library building, proceed to the Short Loans Desk staff and present the item with your borrowers card. You may borrow up to 2 items. Most items are for 2 hour loan, though videos can be borrowed for 4 hours. Staff who need a short extension to these time periods should apply at the desk. Short Loan items which are required for a particular time can be pre-booked through the library catalogue.
Overnight borrowing is possible but it must be organised prior to borrowing. You may collect the item two hours before the Library closes. You must return overnight loans to the Short Loans Return Chute within half an hour of the library opening the next day.
Fines for late return apply. Borrowed Short Loans material must be returned to the Short Loans Return Chute so that your loans may be discharged, otherwise a fine of $2.00 per hour or part thereof will apply.
You may photocopy the material in the Short Loans area using the photocopy machines provided. You do not need to borrow the material you wish to photocopy. Remember to close the lid when copying. Place used material in the designated area for staff to refile. Please do not reshelve material yourself.
Some materials are not available for open access but must be requested at the Short Loans Desk. These include items such as lecturers' private copies and other selected material.
