RUBRIC : building an institutional repository at the University of Newcastle to
showcase the research and intellectual output of the University.

Project Overview

The University of Newcastle is a partner in the Regional Universities Building Research Infrastructure Collaboratively (RUBRIC) Project funded by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) under the Systemic Infrastructure Initiative (SII) as part of the Commonwealth Government's Backing Australia's Ability - An Innovation Action Plan for the Future.

The RUBRIC Project is a collaboration between regional and smaller universities to build research infrastructure and capability. Participating Universities include:

Partner universities are working to build and implement institutional repositories at each institution to showcase the research and intellectual output of their University. Repositories store digital items (scholarly publications, text, images, sound, data, etc) sponsored by the University. They also provide services to manage access as well as discovery of the content by the global research community. This is achieved through open, and controlled, access, e.g. internal and external as relevant.

A Project Manager is funded at each participating university to implement their repository. The project also funds a RUBRIC Central Project Team based at USQ for the purpose of providing support for local implementations. The RUBRIC Central Team includes a Technical Manager and technical team, a metadata specialist, RUBRIC Project Manager and Business and Communications Manager.

The project is an initiative of the University Library working in collaboration with Research Services.
