Research Support Services

The Library provides systems, services and support to promote the university research community. The following provide an overview of our main activities to support academic staff.

NOVA Institutional Repository

The NOVA institutional repository provides services to promote and disseminate the research outputs of the university via Google and the major internet search engines.

Please contact us for further information about NOVA.

HERDC Research Publications Collection

The annual Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) is handled jointly by staff from the Library and Research Services, with Research Services having ultimate responsibility for the submission to the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE). This results in funding allocations returned to the University.

Library staff have responsibility for the collection and entry of all University of Newcastle affiliated publications into the Callista Research Database, which populates your online researcher profile.

Important Dates
Please ensure you notify publications@newcastle.edu.au of all 2012 publications by 31st March, 2013.

E-Press for Online Journal Publication

The Library provides an e-press (Open Journals System) and support services to enable academic staff to host, manage and publish online open access journals to support research publication. The system facilitates the peer-review processes required for journal publication.

Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA)

The Library assists the Research Office with external research assessment initiatives such as the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) exercises. We provide services and support to collect, store and facilitate access to the University's peer reviewed research outputs to meet ERA requirements.

Data Management and Planning

In partnership with the Research Office and IT, the Library provides support and advice to promote data management planning and good practice so as to enable the dissemination and sharing of research data to the Research Data Australia service.

We can assist with: creating descriptive profiles around research datasets and collections for inclusion the Research Data Australia;  information on archiving of research data; and publishing of supplementary research data for journal publications.

A Data Management Toolkit is available to provide information and resources to assist with planning, managing, storing, sharing and publishing research data.

Please contact us for further information about these services and how we can assist you.
