Donations

Guidelines

Donations of items or collections are accepted only if they are relevant to the teaching and research needs of the University community, and/or their acceptance provides a demonstrated benefit to the Library's collections.

Donations are subject to assessment using criteria from the Library’s Collection Development policy. Pressing space issues as well as other factors mean not all donations can be accepted by the library.

Items which have value due to their uniqueness or age should be offered to the University’s Cultural Collections which cares for the Archives. Donated items will not be accepted with strings attached, e.g., housing in a special collection, unless they bear particular historic, cultural or tangible significance.

To donate material to any of our libraries

Donations of library materials may be made to any of the University of Newcastle Libraries in the following way:

  1. Please send a list of the items (including author, title, date, publisher, and edition) to your Faculty Librarian or Client Services Librarian (Central Coast Campus)
  2. The items will then be checked against NEWCAT to ensure against duplication.
  3. Your Faculty Librarian will notify you which items the library is able to acquire and how to arrange the transfer

To donate material to the Friends of the University book sale

You may also choose to donate items to the Friends of the University book sale. The book sale occurs every 2 years and is valued both as an occasion itself and as a fund raising opportunity for the Library and a range of University projects.

Donations to the Friends of the University book sale may be made by delivering items to their storage area behind the Forum on Tuesdays.

Note: items are not accepted during the period of the book sale and for 8 weeks after the sale.
