A National Borrowing Scheme for Staff and Students
About the University Library Australia (ULA)
University Library Australia is a national borrowing scheme which allows all staff and students of University Australia members to borrow in person from any other interstate university in Australia. The scheme is a cooperative arrangement between member universities of the Australian Vice Chancellors' Committee.
The scheme came into effect 2 July 2001.
Who is Eligible
All staff and students from participating universities are eligible.

Registration
Register by filling in the ULA Application form, which can be printed, signed and presented along with your payment at the Loans Enquiry counter to obtain borrowing privileges. Payment can be made by cheque or credit card.

- Students are required to produce a photo ID and proof of current enrollment.
- Staff are required to produce a photo ID and proof of current employment/affiliation.
- Please note: Students enrolled at participating universities via Open Universities Australia are not eligible for University of Newcastle Reciprocal Membership.
Both are needed to establish proof of identity and eligibility to participate in the scheme.
Duration of Borrowing Privileges
University Library Australia borrowing privileges are valid to 28 February of the following year. A new authorised application form is needed each year.
Cost
Each university library has different borrowing rules, regulations and charges. Charges to register at the University of Newcastle are $50 for students and no charge for staff.
No charge for students of BONUS+ partner libraries.
Privacy
Borrower's are required to read and sign the application form acknowledging and agreeing to use of information. Personal information and details of their loans may be conveyed between home and host libraries.
Use of the Library
Use of other libraries will be governed by each institution's rules and regulations, number of items and types of material which may be borrowed and length of loan period.
The University of Newcastle's Library Use Policy should be read before signing the application form.
Fines and Charges
Change of Address or Status
If you change your address or leave your institution, or if you lose your card, please notify all libraries at which you are registered.
