This can happen if a third-party addin file for Word is conflicting with EndNote's addin files. Programs that are known to cause this type of conflict are listed here on EndNote's support site, together with solutions.

Can I transfer references/a bibliography from a Word document into an EndNote library?

There is no quick and easy way of doing this, although a number of methods are detailed in the EndNote manual that comes with your EndNote software (see Chapter 7: Importing Reference Data into EndNote pp. 155-164).  Copying and pasting the information from Word into EndNote is probably the simplest of these.

Where can I download a copy of the BIOSIS journal title abbreviations?

This list contains about 5400 titles of biological journals indexed in Biological Abstracts, together with the corresponding BIOSIS abbreviations, and can be downloaded from the University of Queensland Library.

Once you have downloaded it, you will need to import it into your EndNote library.  The University of Queensland Library also provide instructions on how to do this.

Why is the PUBMED import filter not importing my search results properly?

The PubMed (NLM) import filter that comes with EndNote v7 or earlier will not import your search results correctly.  You may find that it looks as if only a single reference is created, and that all data from multiple records is imported into this single reference, or you may get an "out of memory" error message.

The solution is to download the latest PubMed (NLM) import filter, and save it into the Filters subfolder in your EndNote Program folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters).

This newer version has already been downloaded on the University Computing Laboratories machines, so you should not have this problem.  However, you will need to download it for use on your home or office computer.

Why does the Medline (OVID) import filter not import my search results properly?

The Medline (OVID) import filter that comes with EndNote v7 is faulty.  It does not import the publication year into the Year field, and it imports the journal title, volume, issue and page numbers into the Alternate Journal field.

Download the latest Medline (OVID) import filter and save it into the Filters subfolder in your EndNote Program folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Filters).

This newer version has already been downloaded on the University Computing Laboratories machines, so you should not have this problem.  However, you will need to download it for use on your home or office computer.

The Harvard style is not displaying journal article titles in my bibliography.  How do I fix this?

Choose from the following three options:

1. Edit EndNote's Harvard style, to include journal article titles

2. Download an alternative version of the Harvard style from EndNote's support site, and save it into the Styles subfolder in your EndNote Program folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Styles).

3. Download some of the Harvard styles that have been created by other universities.  Save these into the Styles subfolder in your EndNote Program folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Styles).  Preview some of your references using these different Harvard styles, and choose one which most closely matches your requirements.

I can't find an output style for AGLC2 in EndNote.  Is there one available?

The University of Queensland have created two output styles (one for footnotes only, and one for footnotes plus bibliography) which may be downloaded from their website

Save these into the Styles subfolder in your EndNote Program folder (usually C:\Program Files\EndNote\Styles).

N.B. If you wish to download and use these styles, it is essential that you see ourQuick Guide , which contains further information on using these output styles effectively with EndNote.

A Guide for Creating a Term List of AGLC2 categories is also available.
