Requesting / Placing a Hold
Library users can place up to 10 holds at any one time.
You may request items that are:
- On Loan - Holds can be placed on items which are on loan to another borrower. Once returned they will be put on the Hold shelf to await collection.
- Located at another campus - Holds can also be placed on items which are available on the shelf at a distant location, or in Closed stack, and they will be sent to the pickup location of your choice. For more information, see Requesting Items from other Campuses.
- Located at Thornton off-site storage
Please Note: Items cannot be requested between Huxley and Auchmuty Libraries with the exception of Closed Stack items.
Procedure for placing a hold
- Search the library catalogue, NEWCAT to locate the item to be held
- Click on the Request button
- Type in your Student or Library Card number and PIN
- Choose a pickup location and submit
- Click on Request Selected Item
Confirmation that your request has been sent to the Library will display on the screen.
Notification
Students: You will be notified via your University email account when holds are ready to be collected.
Staff and Other Borrowers: You will only be notified when your holds are available if you have provided us with your email address.
Collecting a Hold/Request
Items can be collected from the Hold shelf, which is located within the Short Loans area of each library.
Items are held for 5 days from notification. If they are not collected within that time, they will be returned to the Library shelves or the next hold on that item will be activated.
Checking your Holds/Requests
- Go to MyLibrary in NEWCAT, the library catalogue
- Type in your Student or Library Card number and PIN to view your account
- Click on the button showing holds/requests
- Holds and their status will be displayed
Cancelling Holds/Requests
- Go to MyLibrary in NEWCAT, the library catalogue
- Type in your Student or Library Card number and PIN to view your account
- Click Requests/Holds outstanding
- Select the hold you wish to cancel, then click Cancel Selected Items, OR click Cancel All if you wish to cancel all of your holds
- Click Start Over to return to NEWCAT
You may also check your Holds by telephoning any of the libraries, or asking at any of the Loans desks.
