What is get it?
get it is an online requesting service to obtain the loan of books, research reports, patents, etc and copies of journal articles, chapters from books or papers from conference proceedings or journal articles held at another University of Newcastle campus library.
get it allows you to:
- request items you need
- request books to be picked up at your home library
- have copies delivered to your University of Newcastle email address
- record and monitor your requests online
Signing In

Students - Enter your student number without the 'c' prefix and password.
Staff - Enter your staff number and password.
Don't know or forgotten your password?
Click the 'click here' button on the login screen for login instructions
Select a function
Request a book: Select if you would like to obtain a loan of a book from another institution
Request an article/chapter: Select if you would like an intercampus copy, an article from another institution or a copy of a chapter.
Active Requests: Select this to view your requests that have not yet been completed.
All Requests: Select this to view your past and current requests. You can check on an item by clicking on its request number.
Search Requests: Select this to check the progress of your requests. This option allows you to search your requests by title or keyword.
How to Request
Submitting a book request
Enter your login details and select book request from the login screen. The following screen will appear, enter as much information on the request page as possible.

Title of Publication: Please enter the title of the book in full Publication details: Please enter as much information as possible ISBN: Please provide an ISBN if known Delivery Method: On campus students please leave as pick up. Off campus students change to Mail Pick up Location: On campus students can choose a library to pick the item up at. (eg. Ourimbah, Auchmuty, Huxley etc.) Messaging Address: This is your University email address, you will be sent notification when your item arrives to this address. Copyright notice: Be sure to read and tick the box next to the copyright statement and then click submit. |
Submitting an article or chapter request
Enter your login details and select request an article/ chapter from the login screen. The following screen will appear, enter as much information on the request page as possible :

Title of publication: Please enter the title of the Journal name in full, do not use abbreviations Title of Article: Please enter the article title Volume/Issue, Date and Pages: Please enter as much information in these fields as possible. ISSN: Please provide an ISSN if known Delivery Method: Leave this as e-mail and the copy will be delivered to you University email address. |
Monitor Your Requests
You have three options to look up the status of your requests

Search Requests: Use this option if you want to search for a specific request number
List Open Requests: This option allows you to view all requests that are currently in process and not yet complete
All Requests: Allows you to view all requests you have submitted
What does the status column mean?
The status column lets you know the progress of your requests, below are the most common status and their definitions:
Processed - Action has been taken by staff, such as placed your request with a supplier.
Delivered - Your request has been delivered or is available for pick up at you home library.
Entered - You have successfully entered your request. Inter Library Services staff will now process your request.
Receiving and Viewing Your Requests
- You will be notified by email when your loan or document arrives.
- If it is a book, or some other physical item, you will need to collect it from the Loans Desk of your home campus library. Present the email you received when you go to collect it.
- Electronic copies will be sent to you by email in PDF format.
IMPORTANT: Your document is available for 10 days only OR 5 views.
Faulty Documents
- If there are any problems with the quality of the copy, or missing pages, please send an email alert with all relevant details to get.it@newcastle.edu.au or phone 02 492 15940.
- Allow 24 hours for a response to your email.
- Report problems as soon as possible because there is a limited time period to re-request faulty documents.
