Community Borrowers - General Information

Borrower Regulations and Sanctions

Community Borrowers (including external students from other institutions, and students joining under the ULA reciprocal loan scheme) generally enjoy the same rights and responsibilities as the University of Newcastle's own undergraduates, with some slight variations.

Please advise the Library if you change your address

Application Fee

• $22 for TAFE students

• $22 for Avondale College staff and students

• $55 for graduates from the University of Newcastle

• $110 for Community Borrowers (or $55 for 6 months registration from July)

• $220 for Corporate Borrowers (up to 4 registrations)

Borrowing rights

Loan conditions are generally the same as those set out in the Undergraduate Guide:

• up to 15 books, as well as up to 12 items from Huxley and Ourimbah AV

• 2 weeks loans for books unless otherwise stated in NEWCAT

• one renewal only, however items with reservations cannot be renewed

• fines charged at $2 per item for the first day overdue, increasing by 50c per day until the item is returned

• borrowing privileges cease when fines exceed $10

  Borrowing rights:

  • 50 items for 12 weeks
  • Unlimited renewals during the current year
  • All recalled items must be returned immediately
  • 6 serials for 3 days (non restricted serials) which can be renewed once only.
    
    There is no access to licensed databases services e.g. CD-ROMS, Internet

Items available for borrowing

Items from general collections, including:

• 3 day loan

• General Short Loan collections

• Law reserve, except for Avondale College borrowers

• Huxley and Ourimbah Campus general AV collections

• Interlibrary Loans Service
• Auchmuty AV collection
• Huxley 3 Day and Short Loan videos
• Off-air recordings
• Biomedical Reserve Collection
• Renwick Collection

• Gardiner Library
• Toy Collection
• BONUS+

Holds may be placed on up to 3 items, and these will be held for collection for 5 days.
Items which have not been returned 4 weeks after the date due will be invoiced at the rate of $100 per item.

Bookings MAY NOT be place on Short Loan items. Renewals ARE NOT PERMITTED on Short Loan items.
