This part of the course aims to develop information literacy skills enabling access to information in various formats from a wide variety of sources. It will provide skills in:
The workbook BIOL1030 Biological Data Evaluation: Library & Information Networks will be available from your Blackboard course. Note: This is a different book from the 'Guide to BIOL1030' handbook which covers all the subjects. I will place a chapter or two in Blackboard on a weekly basis. Each chapter has exercises which you can work through at your own pace. Answer sheets will also be available where appropriate. I will also set up Discussion forums in the Blackboard course in case you have any questions.
This book will help you to make best use of the wide range of Library material and show you how to search for journal articles, books, videos etc for your assignments.
One of the most difficult aspects of writing papers is getting the referencing correct. You need to be able to correctly cite in-text (in your paper/essay/report) as well as correctly create bibliographies or reference lists (at the end of a work). There is a chapter in your workbook as well as the online documents to help you with this aspect of your work.
